Artist Statement

I paint to express not to just illustrate. Be it the figurative subject or non-objective expression, ‘Abstract art’ techniques echoes my artistic flair the best. I primarily work with acrylics, sometimes mixed with oils and dry media on canvas. My love for Art keep me enthused, Inspiration is found through travel in time or places stimulated with culture, people, interactions, imaginations, observing nature or just in everyday things. I usually paint in my studio; I paint long hours spent in isolation that helps me meditate through Art. When outdoor, I do sketching, observing textures, digital layouts, making postcards or taking photographs.

I start by making marks intuitively on canvas with paint or charcoal to activate the painting surface. As I progress through few layers of mark making I step back and spend time to see through the various marks made and discover composition that is interesting to form an under -painting. I will take paints and then block certain areas to hide and seek the composition, to form shapes or to create space. Sometimes I will lift away paint letting the previous layer to surface up. It takes a lot of immersion into the process going back and forth repeating through the layers before I get to the point where onwards it is like being in conversation with the painting. It is most important for me to be able to listen to what the painting has to say, where it wants to go or what it wants to be. The lines, texture, colors and spaces will frame the visual language that expresses the story, just not what was seen but also what was felt within. Through my paintings, I want to enthuse new imaginations and spread the gift of art.
